Canada releases landmark guidelines on obesity

On April 10th, the Canadian Medical Association Journal published a set of clinical guidelines designed to address the growing concern of obesity.

This landmark publishing is the first of its kind as Canada becomes the first country to produce these evidence-based guidelines. The guidelines are aimed at health professionals and policy makers.

Not surprisingly, the guidelines recommend that the very first step should be a change to a healthy diet and regular exercise. It is also recommended that programs promoting healthy, active living should be promoted in schools and include interventions to increase daily physical activity through phys. ed class time and active recreation. Screen time should also be limited.

The executive "summary" (it is 14 pages) can be found here and the complete report can be found here.
