Betty S.
What sets Betty S. apart from so many others? It’s her enthusiasm for life and for active living. At the age of 82, Betty says, “I’m not ready to sit in a rocking chair and twiddle my thumbs” and when recently asked by a young person if she spends her time knitting, Betty’s reply was, “I don’t have time to knit.”What Betty does make time for is keeping active. Five years ago she joined Curves in Okotoks because she wanted to keep her muscles working and her bones strong. She works out 3-4 times a week and has noticed that this regular exercise has also helped to keep her heart rate low. When she leaves Curves after a workout, Betty says, “I feel like a million bucks!” Two of Betty’s daughters have followed her example and are members at Curves as well. Besides exercising at Curves, Betty swims regularly in her own pool and plays golf in the summer.
What is Betty’s motivation to keeping this active? Partly, it is because she has always lived her life this way and partly because as she ages, she feels it is even more important to stay healthy so that she can continue to do activities like driving her car.
Betty was born in England, came to Montreal, Canada when she was 5 years old and moved to our area in 1967. Betty has always been active and many of those activities where spent with her husband of 58 years, her 3 daughters and her grandchildren; who all in turn lead an active life. She says that she has participated in almost every sport during her lifetime. Betty’s favorites were tennis, skiing, skating and horseback riding.
It is easy to see why Betty is our GO2 Champion and how her enthusiasm for life is inspiring to everyone who spends time with this lovely lady!
