Okotoks Go2 Community Champion February 2008: Briseno Family

The Briseno Family - Our GO2 Family for February

Jorge Briseno and Adriana Bratu and their sons, Bernardo and Ian, exemplify a family who are active as individuals as well as active as a family. Originally from Mexico they first came to Canada through Montreal in 2004 and then two years later decided to look for new opportunities in Okotoks.

When they lived in Mexico and prior to having children, Adriana's activities ranged from running and doing aerobics each day to swimming and her favorite activity and the one she says she misses the most, scuba diving. Her husband, Jorge, played rugby and raced rally cars in Mexico. In addition to this he was a competitive swimmer who would have made the Pan American Games if he had not injured his neck.

Their oldest son, Bernardo was born in Mexico City and he became an excellent swimmer at a very early age. He is in kindergarten this year and is proud that he has already mastered riding a two wheeler. In fact; Bernardo is so active that he is known by his nick name," Adrenalin".

Their youngest son, Ian, was born in Canada at the High River Hospital. Adriana says that he is an extremely busy toddler and when he was born he was so eager to get going that he almost didn't wait until she got to the hospital. Ian keeps his parents very active running after him and he participates in the Rhythm and Rhyme Class at the Okotoks Library.

The Briseno Family like to go hiking in the mountains, swim at the local pool, go sledding when there is enough snow, play at the playground and spend time at the zoo. You will often see them on their bikes enjoying the great pathway system around town. They eat healthy and stay active and they are a great example of what a GO2 family is!
