• SkateboardingIf you have a board, find some friends who skate and go to Millennium Park, located in downtown Calgary.  This is a great place to practice your skating, show off, and meet people.  http://www.gov.calgary.ab.ca/skatepark/pg_millennium_home.html.  West Side Center also provides an outdoor skateboard park free of charge.
  • Bowlinglooking for something fun to do Friday night?  Check out your local bowling hall with your friends- bowling is a great way to move around and socialize at the same time, and some bowling alleys have ‘glow bowl’ on the weekends for extra fun.
  • Open gyms/Rec centers A lot of recreational facilities have open gym times where you can use the variety of facilities or get together with friends for a game of basketball or floor hockey. Check out the YMCA website for locations and times.  http://www.ymcacalgary.org/
  • Roller-skating/Rollerblading - A fun way to get together and get exercise at the same time!  You’ll get a great cardio workout as well as work your lower body muscles.  Most people use inline skates (rollerblades) nowadays, but you can still strap on a pair of old-fashioned roller-skates if you want to try something ‘new’.  Link to skate rinks in Calgary at http://www.skategroove.com/rinklink/canada.asp
  • Frisbee - Get together with your friends and take a ball or frisbee to a local park and toss it around.
  • Hackey Sack – Hackey-sacks are cheap and you can find them in skate and sport shops everywhere.  With a group of friends, you pass the sack around without letting it hit the ground, using only your feet, legs, or head to keep it in the air.  This is a tricky sport that will develop coordination and give you a full body workout while you move to keep the sack airborne
  • Self-Defence - Ask a friend to sign up for karate or tae kwon do classes with you.

  • Road Racing-  Train for a 5 or 10 km road race. Check out the Calgary Road Runners website for all races in Calgary.

  • Hip Hop- Try some hip hop dancing, put on some music and practice with your friends!
