- Meet with a friend, co-worker or neighbour for a power walk or jog before work, at lunch or after work.
- Find a Fitness Centre close to your work that you can visit before, after or during your work day. When you drive by it at least twice daily it’s tough to forget about going!
- Look at the daily Fitness class schedule at your fitness centre and plan your day around going to your favourite classes.
- Stop at the park on the way home from work. Make it a time to have fun and catch up with your children and share the day with them.
- Walk (to transit) and ride, or ride and walk (a few blocks to work).
- If your parking spot is close to your building, trade with someone who has a stall further away so you can walk a few more steps each day. You'll both be happy!
- Activate your stomach muscles by pulling your belly button in towards your spine. This will help to promote good posture and take pressure off your low back. These can be done sitting in the car, walking into work or sitting at the desk.
- At red lights take the opportunity to stretch. Focus on your neck, shoulders, elbow and wrists.
- Commute to work by foot, bike or in-line skate. You’ll be doing your part to decrease your impact on the environment at the same time as benefiting your own health. Calgary has many pathways open year round; find out which ones are open close to you.
- When commuting on your bike or in-lines skates, be sure to pack a back-pack with clean dry clothes as well as lunch and toiletries that will help get you (and your co-workers) through the day.
