Coffee Breaks/ Energy Breaks

  • Take them and leave your workstation.  Plan these as a part of your schedule, not as a time to catch up on your “to do” list.
  • Make the coffee break a walking break and get up and move.  Perhaps walk to a coffee shop a block or two away rather than to the coffee pot in the staff room.
  • Use your 15 minutes to count toward your 30 minute total of daily physical activity. Climb stairs, walk around the block or around the building.
  • If you are already physically active on the job use your 15 minute breaks to stretch your muscles, hydrate with water and nourish your body with healthy food choices.
  • Take a mini vacation.  Close your eyes, visualize your favourite place, take a full deep breath in and exhale slowly through your nose.  Repeat and relax with each cycle.  Take this time to relax, reflect and stretch.
  • Swap Active Living ideas with your co-workers during your breaks.  Share tricks on fitting in activity and tips on what to do.
  • Smokers, you know you should not smoke, but at least try to be more active; walk to the furthest designated smoking area or walk around the block.  Activity will not cancel out the damaging effects of smoking, but by limiting physical inactivity and increasing physical activity you can provide you body with health benefits.
  • Make a healthy snack choice.  Food is the fuel of your mind and body
  • Go outside and refresh with the fresh air.
