From increasing bone and muscle mass, to reducing risk of heart disease strength activities provide a wealth of benefits at any age. A strength activity requires that some form of resistance (or weight) be placed against the body’s muscles- thus making the muscle contract, i.e. dumbbells, bodyweight and even groceries. Try to pick activities that work a variety of muscle groups (i.e. arms, legs, back, torso) as well as both sides of your body (right and left).
Strength activities can be incorporated into your lifestyle by climbing the stairs, carrying groceries (or kids!), yard work, carrying a backpack or shovelling the snow.
