On Saturday October 28, 2006 GO2 became the proud recipient of the AV Pettigrew Award from the Alberta Parks and Recreation Association. GO2 representatives Pam Manzara (City of Calgary) and Jason Bostick (Calgary Health Region) accepted the award in Jasper, Alberta during the ARPA's annual conference dinner.
The award recognizes communities in Alberta that have contributed the most to improving the quality of life of their citizens through recreation and parks. Created and first awarded in 1972, this marks only the second time in 25 years that Calgary has won this award (the first being in 1983, when the Family Leisure Association of SE Calgary was the winner).
The award is in the honour of Albert (Bert) Victor Pettigrew. Known to many in Alberta and Western Canada as "Mr. Recreation" or the "Dean of Recreation", Bert retired in October 1972 from the Edmonton Parks and Recreation Department after 26 years of devoted service to Edmonton citizens.
"We're extremely proud to be named the 2006 AV Pettigrew Award recipient" said Bostick. "This is a prestigious award, a wonderful accomplishment, and is a testament to all the hard work and committment of our community partners."
