Read about Dave Widdifield - GO2's latest success story!
Healthy Dave
Since the start of his health change in January 2000, Dave Widdifield has lost 50 pounds, reduced his cholesterol levels and lowered his blood pressure.
Keys to Success:
Nutrition – Dave tells us he now watches his overall food consumption, makes better choices and thinks of it as a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.
Physical Activity – He focuses on consistent attendance: aerobic training 5-6 days/wk, light weights 2-3 days/wk.
What sparked the change in Dave’s lifestyle?
After a car accident in 1991, which left Dave with a severely broken hip, he went from a highly active individual to a sedentary one, resulting in a significant weight gain. With a New Years resolution in 2000 to lose weight and avoid future health problems, Dave began eating more sensibly and exercising regularly. By April of that year, Dave had lost an incredible 50lbs! Since then he has worked diligently in his efforts to keep the weight off.
What were his greatest roadblocks?
Along with the physical obstacles Dave went through (and still goes through), the difficulty of “hunger management” was significant. The first month was the hardest, trying to convince his body and mind that this new, healthy way of eating was for the best.
Rewards:
The greatest reward for Dave has been his ability to keep up with his three boys aged 20-25 and their love for outdoor activities such as downhill and water skiing. “I no longer just drive the boat!” proclaims Dave with a smile.
What’s next?
Dave is determined to make the health changes remain permanent and enjoy all the activities with his family. He hopes to convince others to follow.
Words to inspire
“Control the health issues that you’re able to. There are too many that we are not able to.”
“If you are not able to motivate yourself, be realistic and find the help of motivators that will be able to help (for example, personal trainers).”
“There is never an excuse when working in the field. If you look, you’ll find an area or facility to exercise in.”
